We  study in animal models and through clinical studies the co-morbidities associated with diabetes and obesity such as Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver, cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases, that strongly impact morbidity and mortality worldwide.

Keywords : Type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic liver disease, insulin resistance, kidney disease, mineralocorticoid receptor

Scientific Themes

Non Alcoholic Fatty liver diseases and type 2 diabetes

We study the mechanisms leading to Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease and its complications, which are both strongly associated with diabetes and obesity..

Mineralocorticoid Receptor : role in renal and metabolic co-morbidities and therapeutic implications

We aim at improving the understanding of the signaling pathways whereby the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) exerts its pathophysiological roles.

Role of sphingolipid metabolism in the development of type 2 diabetes

We study the molecular mechanisms involved in insulin resistance induced by fatty acid derivatives, such as ceramides, in insulin sensitive tissues.
