Metabolism, Cancer and Immunity

Director :

Guido Kroemer

The team is interested in the triangulation between metabolism (with emphasis on metabolic syndrome, obesity and nutrition), cancer (especially the common cancers: colon, lung and breast) and immunity (and the link between anti-cancer immunosurveillance and autoimmunity) by following the arrow of time, aging

LEGEND: Paradigm shifts in cancer research and therapy. Progress in cancer research is shown in steps, from left to right. A purely cancer-cell-centric view of the tumor (a) has given way to an ever more refined view of neoplasia, with the inclusion of stromal elements (b) and myeloid and lymphoid cells participating in immunosurveillance (c). More recently, the influence of extratumoral effects on cancer biology has been realized (d). The future of oncology relies on the view of cancer as an ecosystem, requiring the simultaneous study of all constituents, as well as their functional interactions.
