JCI Insight’s recent publication entitled “IRF5 governs liver macrophage activation that promotes hepatic fibrosis in mice and humans” describes our group’s latest work bringing to light the previously unknown roles of the transcription factor Interferon Regulatory Factor (IRF)-5 in liver disease. We describe the mechanisms through which IRF5-mediated immune system activation is responsible for pathogenesis of fibro-inflammatory liver disease.
