A major distinction for a committed scientist

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, during the annual congress of EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver), Professor Jessica Zucman-Rossi received the prestigious EASL Recognition Award 2025. This award honors her entire scientific career dedicated to understanding liver diseases, as well as her strong commitment to inclusive and collaborative science.

Founded in 1966, EASL is a leading medical organization in the field of hepatology. It brings together over 6,800 members across 112 countries and works to promote excellence in liver research, improve clinical practices, and provide continuous training for healthcare professionals.

A vision of research rooted in teamwork

Sophie Lotersztajn, who introduced Jessica Zucman-Rossi to the audience, beautifully highlighted her dedication and close connection with her teams. She recalled how essential team cohesion is to Jessica Zucman-Rossi, who every year hosts a retreat at her own home with her entire team. This human and collaborative approach has been a guiding principle throughout her scientific journey. You can watch this thoughtful presentation in the video below.

In her acceptance speech, Jessica Zucman-Rossi emphasized the importance of teamwork in driving scientific breakthroughs:

“What I love most in research is the joy of collective discovery. Sometimes, something clicks, and this is a piece of the puzzle that falls into place that makes our understanding grow. When you begin to experience this, you are completely addicted to research. This type of discovery would not be possible without my team. “

A commitment to equality and mentorship

Praised for her dedication to supporting young scientists — and particularly for empowering women in science — Jessica Zucman-Rossi also stressed the importance of amplifying the voice of science in all its diversity: fundamental, translational, and clinical. She called for a research landscape that is open and accessible to all.

Her speech concluded with a powerful reminder: the importance of preserving the freedom of research, which is essential to scientific progress and improved care.

This award highlights an exemplary career devoted not only to research, but also to people.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Professor Jessica Zucman-Rossi for this inspiring and meaningful recognition, which resonates throughout the entire Cordeliers Research Center community.
