Summary :
“Recent advances in technology—particularly in the field of single-cell and spatial omics—have greatly improved our understanding of fibroblast differentiation into extracellular matrix–secreting myofibroblasts. These approaches have revealed previously unrecognized intermediate states within the fibroblast lineage. Among them, a distinct inflammatory fibroblast subset has emerged, characterized by its ability to recruit macrophages and contribute to the initiation and expansion of the fibrogenic niche.
In this seminar, I will present the identification and characterization of these inflammatory fibroblasts, and discuss their functional role in the development and progression of kidney fibrosis.”
