Francine Béhar-Cohen, Inserm Innovation Prize 2021

15/12/2021

The Inserm Innovation 2021 Prize has been awarded to Francine Béhar-Cohen, ophthalmologist, researcher and entrepreneur.

Team leader at the Centre de Recherche des Cordeliers, Francine Béhar-Cohen is the owner of 26 families of patents and the creator of Eyevensys, a biotech company dedicated to innovative treatments for eye diseases.

For many years, Francine Béhar-Cohen’s team has been interested in eye diseases, particularly those that are accessible to local therapies. The laboratory has developed a non-viral gene therapy technique administered locally in the eye. These therapies are being developed by the start-up company Eyevensys, created by Francine Béhar-Cohen in 2008.

The laboratory is also studying the mechanism of action of various molecules commonly used in ophthalmology, such as corticoids, as well as the environmental risks to which the eyes are exposed, in particular light.
